Switchboard Matting, MIL-DTL-15562G, Type I, Type II and Type III are floor matting products, which insulate workers from electrocution by interrupting the path to ground.  Switchboard Matting is typically used around electrified equipment where maintenance and operational workers stand.  MIL-DTL-15562G is both a US Military Specification and a NATO Specification.

Switchboard Matting is used by the US Navy and the US Coast Guard aboard ship and in buildings: including high-voltage switchboard spaces, generator spaces, operations spaces, communications facilities, and on floors and workbench tops in electrical and electronics work shops.  It is also used in military Avionics and AIMD shops, both land-based and shipboard.

Type I Switchboard Matting is also used in living spaces for aesthetic purposes, and for its water-tight integrity with heat-welded seams.  Please consult Naval Ships Technical Manual (NSTM) Chapter 634--Deck Coverings for a list of authorized spaces and US Navy installation instructions.

MIL-DTL-15562G is the Current Revision of the specification, and replaces MIL-M-15562F I.A.W. NAVSEA Standard Item 009-01, paragraph 3.6.3. for Government Standards.  For Quality Assurance purposes, all purchase orders should require a written Certificate of Compliance to the Current Revision of the specification I.A.W. NAVSEA Habitability Materials List.

Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Naval Public Works Centers (NAVPWC) and other US Government land-based facilities should click on the ASTM D 178 "Specification Button" at the top of this page for information on OSHA 29 CFR 1910.137 products.
